CLOG(1) CLOG(1)

NAME
clog(1,3) - Authenticate to the Coda distributed file(1,n) system

SYNOPSIS
       clog(1,3) [ -pipe ] [ -test ] [ -host hostname ] [ -coda | -kerberos4 |
       -kerberos5 ] [ -tofile file(1,n) ] [ -fromfile file(1,n) ] [username][@realm]

DESCRIPTION
This command enables users(1,5) to get tokens to use for authenticated com-
munication with a Coda File System. The given name and a password or
kerberos token are passed to an Authentication Server. The Authentica-
tion Server returns a set(7,n,1 builtins) of tokens encoding(3,n) the chosen identity if(3,n) the
password is correct. clog(1,3) passes these tokens to the venus process,
which acts as the users(1,5) agent for file(1,n) manipulation. These tokens have
a limited lifetime, becoming invalid after 25 hours. If an attempt is
made to operate on a Coda File System object while the user is not
authenticated, the user will assume the privileges of the Anonymous
       user.

       clog(1,3) accepts the following arguments:

-pipe For use in(1,8) shell scripts, the password is read(2,n,1 builtins) from stdin. This
option is also enabled when stdin is not a tty.

-test Test the clog-venus token passing code.

-host Specify the host(1,5) where the authentication server is running.

       -coda | -kerberos4 | -kerberos5
Authentication mechanism, use kerberos tickets or coda password
to identify yourself to the authentication server.

       -tofile
After obtaining a token from the authentication server, write(1,2) it
              to a file.

       -fromfile
Instead of connecting to the authentication server, read(2,n,1 builtins) a pre-
viously saved token from a file(1,n) and pass it to venus.

       [username][@realm]
Coda user name you wish to be identified as within the specified
realm. If the username is not specified, clog(1,3) tries to use the
local login(1,3,5) name. If the Coda realm name is not specified clog(1,3)
falls back to using the default realm name as specified in(1,8) the
              venus.conf configuration file.

BUGS
The on-disk tokens are not encrypted.

The -pipe option should be dropped, there already is an isatty(stdin)
test which is sufficient for most cases.

The -test option should also test the reading and writing code of
         token files.
